ABOUT

Dr. Trevor Watt started AVID R&D LLC in 2018 to provide consulting services in materials science, engineering analysis, prototype design, and scientific software. Dr. Watt received his M.S.E in mechanical engineering and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 and 2011, respectively. Prior to completing his Ph.D., he spent the first 13 years of his career at the Institute for Advanced Technology (IAT) conducting research on high-current electromechanical systems and studying the behavior of engineering materials in extreme environments.

After receiving his Ph.D. in 2011, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer at The University of Texas’ Advanced Manufacturing Center where he studied the behavior of nickel superalloys, non-ferrous alloys, and laser sintering of polymers and metals. In 2015 he joined Stratasys where he worked as a material scientist, software developer, and mechanical designer for prototype additive manufacturing systems. In 2017 his group spun off Vulcan Laboratories, which focused on the development of a novel metal powder bed fusion (PBF) machine.

In 2018 he formed AVID R&D LLC to provide R&D support and prototype development for engineering and research organizations. He is the author or co-author of over thirty peer-reviewed journal articles, has presented at numerous national and international conferences, and is a licensed professional engineer in the branch of metallurgy (State of Texas license no. 118634).
